Striped scrap-yarn crochet scrunchie

Striped Scrap-Yarn Crochet Scrunchie Pattern

This is a good stash-busting version because each stripe can use a small amount of leftover yarn. Work slowly around the elastic the first time, then repeat the same structure for faster batches.

Materials

  • Small yarn leftovers in 2 to 4 colors
  • Hair elastic
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose yarn scraps in the same weight.
  2. Cover the elastic with single crochet using the first color.
  3. Join the round and change to the second color.
  4. Chain 2 and work half double crochet stitches around.
  5. Change color every 8 to 12 stitches for short stripes.
  6. Carry no yarn across the back; cut and join colors cleanly instead.
  7. Join the round when the scrunchie is full enough.
  8. Tie color-change tails gently on the inside if needed.
  9. Weave in every end securely.
  10. Stretch the scrunchie lightly to check that the joins hold.

Finishing tips

  • Use matching yarn weights.
  • Fewer colors mean fewer ends.
  • Keep color joins on the inside of the scrunchie.

How to use it

Use the finished scrunchie for everyday hair styling, gift sets, craft fair baskets, party favors, or quick accessory bundles. Make two or three in matching colors for a more polished gift.
