Overview

Special stitch: puff stitch
Yarn over, insert the hook two rows below the next stitch, and pull up a loop to the height of the current row. Repeat this action three times in the same stitch until there are 7 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops.
Pattern notes
- To resize, chain a multiple of 5 plus 8.
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
- Puff stitches are worked into stitches two rows below.

Step-by-step pattern instructions
Step 1: Make the foundation chain
Chain 43, or chain a multiple of 5 plus 8 for your preferred width.
Step 2: Work Row 1
Work 1 sc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. You should have 42 stitches if you started with 43 chains.
Step 3: Work Rows 2-4
Ch 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in the first stitch and in each stitch across each row.
Step 4: Work Row 5
Ch 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in the first stitch, then work 1 puff stitch in the next stitch two rows below. Repeat: 4 sc, puff stitch across the row until 5 stitches remain. Work 1 sc in each of the last 5 stitches.
Step 5: Work Row 6
Ch 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in the first stitch and in each stitch across.
Step 6: Work Row 7

Step 14: Optional border
Ch 3 and turn. Skip 1 stitch, work 1 sl st in the next stitch, then repeat: ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sl st in the next stitch around the cloth. Keep the spacing even on each side.
