  • 3 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors

About 11 stitches and 15 rows in single crochet = 2 inches.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • yo = yarn over
  • pf st = puff stitch

Yarn over, insert the hook two rows below the next stitch, and pull up a loop to the height of the current row. Repeat this action three times in the same stitch until there are 7 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops.

Pattern notes

  • To resize, chain a multiple of 5 plus 8.
  • Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
  • Puff stitches are worked into stitches two rows below.
  • Use several pastel shades to make a coordinated facial cloth set.

Ch 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in the first stitch and in each stitch across each row.

Step 4: Work Row 5

Step 11: Work Row 12

Ch 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in the first stitch and in each stitch across.

Step 12: Work Row 13

Ch 1 and turn. Work 5 sc, puff stitch, then repeat: 4 sc, puff stitch across the row. Work 1 sc at the end.

Step 13: Continue to square size

Work Row 14 as a plain sc row. Repeat Rows 5-14 until the cloth is square, then work one final plain sc row.

Step 14: Optional border

Ch 3 and turn. Skip 1 stitch, work 1 sl st in the next stitch, then repeat: ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sl st in the next stitch around the cloth. Keep the spacing even on each side.

Step 15: Finish

Fasten off, weave in the ends, and block lightly for a neat gift-ready shape.
