Share
Overview
This gift-ready stacked washcloth bundle uses a textured massage-style washcloth pattern. Make several cloths in coordinated cotton colors, stack them neatly, and tie them with ribbon for an easy handmade spa gift.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton yarn, about 40 yards per washcloth
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Ribbon or twine for bundling
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- cl = cluster stitch / puff stitch
Special stitch: cluster stitch
Yarn over, insert the hook into the next stitch, and pull up a loop to the height of the row. Repeat this action four times in the same stitch until there are 9 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through 8 loops, then yarn over and pull through the final 2 loops.
Step-by-step pattern instructions
Step 1: Make the foundation chain
Chain 20.
Step 2: Work Row 1
Work 1 sc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next stitch, then repeat: sc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch across. Work 1 sc in the last stitch and turn. You should have 19 stitches.
Step 3: Work Row 2
Ch 2. Work 1 dc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch, then repeat: dc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch across. Work 1 dc in the last stitch and turn.
Step 4: Work Row 3
Ch 1. Work 1 sc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next stitch, then repeat: sc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch across. Work 1 sc in the last stitch and turn.
Step 5: Work Row 4
Ch 1. Work 1 sc in each of the first 3 stitches. Repeat: cluster stitch in the next stitch, sc in each of the next 3 stitches across. Turn.
Step 6: Work Rows 5-8
Repeat the alternating sc/dc texture for Rows 5-7, then repeat the cluster row for Row 8.
Step 7: Complete the cloth
Repeat Rows 5-7 once more for Rows 9-11. Then repeat Rows 4-11 until Row 19, keeping 19 stitches in each row.
Step 8: Add the edging
Ch 1 and work 1 sc in each stitch across the final row. Continue down the side edge, across the foundation edge, and up the opposite side, placing 3 sc in each corner so the cloth lies flat.
Step 9: Finish and bundle
Break the yarn, finish neatly, and weave in the ends. Make three to five matching cloths, stack them, and tie the bundle with ribbon or twine.
